The Las Vegas Raiders have found their Derek Carr replacement, and it's an upgrade to QB Jimmy Garoppolo. He was their best target, after losing out on Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets (maybe?), and they locked him in with a three-year, $67.5 million deal, with $34 million guaranteed.
The main reason he landed in Vegas was his relationship with ex-New England Patriots offensive coordinator (Garoppolo was Tom Brady's backup for years in NE) Josh McDaniels, who is now the Raiders head coach. Garoppolo has a familiarity with McDaniels' offense that it seems Carr wasn't able to grasp. And if we're going off of last year, it appears the team wasn't willing to adjust, based on how poorly Carr played. The writing was on the wall probably midseason that they needed a shot at someone else.
The one knock on Jimmy is his inability to stay healthy - if he can, he plays very well and could get the Raiders a postseason bid. If not, the Raiders have to have a backup plan. With them picking at No. 7 in the 2023 NFL Draft and Garoppolo's short-term deal, they may choose to go the draft-and-sit route. The Houston Texans were also interested in Garoppolo - with them passing on him, it seems most likely that they'll draft their future QB with the No.2 pick and have him compete with current starter Davis Mills or sign a cheap vet like Carson Wentz. more qb news:

We may have seen the last of Jalen Hurts in the regular season. During this week's Philadelphia Eagles win, Hurts was tackled into the turf, where he suffered a sprained shoulder.
Hurts did have an MRI on Monday, which was negative and showed that the injury wasn't serious, but it may be severe enough to pull him out for the next two weeks. The Eagles want him at his healthiest heading into the playoffs. Backup QB Gardner Minshew will take Hurts' spot until he's ready to go, and it looks like that will happen at least this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys. more Qb news:
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a non-contact knee injury on the third play during Monday Night Football.
Murray was in the middle of a scramble when his knee appeared to buckle. (I'm not going to post the video, but you can look for it if you want to see it.) Murray was carted off the field, surrounded by teammates, and quickly ruled questionable to return. Murray was later ruled out by the team in the second quarter with a knee injury. Backup QB Colt McCoy replaced him.
Reports began to emerge throughout the game that Murray had torn his ACL. Murray will have an MRI on Tuesday to confirm.
more Qb News:
The first touchdown of the night went to quarterback Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears. Fields ran for a three-yard touchdown after going 3-for-3 and 39 yards on their second drive.
New England Patriots starting quarterback Mac Jones was promptly benched after throwing an interception in the second quarter, and was replaced by Bailey Zappe who, you guessed it, immediately threw a touchdown pass. Zappe took the Pats' offense right down the field, going 3-for-3 for 54 yards and capped off by a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers.
Zappe continued to throw absolute dimes, with this one in the second quarter - a 43-yarder to DaVante Parker, to set up the touchdown to give the Patriots the 10-0 lead.
The Bears (surprisingly?) ended up winning this one, forcing four turnovers and giving Bill Belichick the business. One of the more impressive turnovers was this grab by Jaquan Brisker.

Thanks for reading! There was another school shooting on Monday at a high school in St. Louis. PLEASE VOTE. xo, L
On Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders signed wide receiver Hunter Renfrow to a new two-year, $32 million extension. Included in the deal is a $21 million guarantee. Renfrow is coming off his best season, including a team-high nine touchdown receptions. With a true WR1 in Davante Adams in town, Renfrow is a solid WR2 and has a solid rapport with quarterback Derek Carr.

giants
After being knocked out (literally) of the game last weekend, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones returned to practice on Thursday on a limited basis. Jones' status is still up in the air, as he is currently progressing through concussion protocol and has to be cleared in order to play this week.
STEELERS
Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling this season, but they finally snapped their losing streak last week. Could this be the spark they need to keep things going? Roethlisberger says they still have a lot of work to do. "We're not by any means going to sit here and say we're fixed; we're this great offense. We're not there yet. We still have a long way to go." Well, at least he's aware.
chargers
In probably one of the best quotes I've heard this entire season, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said of Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert... well, I'll just leave it here.

ravens
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was absent from practice again on Thursday, making it the second straight practice missed. While it was said that he was just dealing with some back soreness, it is somewhat alarming that he's missing yet another day of work. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman gave an update on his status.
cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are currently undefeated, and a lot of that is due to quarterback Kyler Murray. While he's currently being talked about within the ever-elusive "MVP Conversation," Murray says he's not really thinking about that right now. "It's a long season, and I was always raised and taught that if you win as a team, the individual accolades will come. That's how I treated it in high school, that's how I treated it when I won the Heisman, same thing for now. I'm not really worried about MVP or anything like that."
washington
Earlier this week, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said that he wants quarterback Taylor Heinicke to calm down a little bit and focus on managing the game better. In other words: Stop doing too much. Heinicke says he takes no issue with Rivera's comments. "I have no problem with it. That's what every quarterback should be - game manager. You take what's there, take what's given, and you move the ball down the field."
falcons
I know he's supposed to say this stuff, but Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera is really buttering up his opponent for next week. Rivera kind of over-did it when it came to talking about Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. "I mean, this is a savvy guy, this is a guy that's been doing it a long time and has had a lot of success. He's a league MVP. So you know, he's a really good football player. He's got a good arm. He still makes all the throws. He is a little older, but with that comes wisdom and experience. And that's what you see from Matt." Is it, though?
raiders
Oh no. Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had some strong words to say about this week's game against the Los Angeles Chargers and I'm just going to leave them here and call it a jinx. "It was always looked at as another home game and that's no disrespect, it's a fact. The way you practice, the way you meet, it felt like a home game. I fully expect Raider Nation to take over the majority of the stadium again. They usually do." Oh no.
