The Indianapolis Colts announced rookie QB Anthony Richardson will officially be the starting quarterback in Week One.
Richardson, who was drafted by the Colts at No. 4 in this past year's draft, has seen the first-team offense for most of training camp despite various reports that he may need to take the "sit and learn" approach his first year in the league. On a team that has started a different QB every season for what seems like forever, the plan is that Richardson is the starter for many years to come.
Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew thinks Richardson is fully equipped for the job, and isn't disappointed that he won't be the team's starter come September. Minshew knew when he signed with Indianapolis this offseason that there was a good chance the rookie could win the job.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray continues to work his way back from a torn ACL. While it appears he will miss time at the beginning of the season, head coach Jonathan Gannon isn't giving a more specific timeline on when he'll be back.
Murray had ACL reconstruction surgery in January.
As the Cardinals face an "Are We Rebuilding?" year, Murray is under a lot of pressure to perform up to the contract he signed. It's just a matter of when he'll be returning. His replacement will likely be backup QB Colt McCoy, but rookie Clayton Tune has been turning heads in training camp this summer. more qb news:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QBs Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are both listed as QB1 on the team's first depth chart.
Head coach Todd Bowles said each QB will start a preseason game. "Whoever starts this game, the other one will start the next game and get the same amount of reps."

We all know the story by now of how Aaron Rodgers took a massive pay cut to play with the New York Jets. But, apparently, he reiterated (once again) that he plans to be there for longer than just 2023.
As someone who has thought that Rodgers would retire after the past two seasons, I'd be shocked if he played beyond 2023. It's better to bow out too soon than too late.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert underwent shoulder surgery this offseason (non-throwing shoulder) and has been slowly working his way back to the field. Herbert said he plans to participate in team drills this week after he had just been working on the side. Herbert returning to team drills already is a good sign that he'll be ready to go for training camp next month.
On top of returning to the field, Herbert is also due a huge payday soon and head coach Brandon Staley acknowledged that those talks and negotiations are ongoing.
Herbert didn't exactly give a straight answer when asked if he would play this upcoming season without a new contract. "That's a good question. I think that's something you have to address and you have to think about." more qb news:
Tom Brady is once again reiterating that he does not intend to return to playing football. Rumors about his return will swirl forever, but recently resurfaced because of his involvement with the Las Vegas Raiders. I won't believe it until I see it, personally.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to be in the midst of a quarterback competition come training camp, but the team isn't going to force anything from the jump. Baker Mayfield has been impressing the Bucs' staff so far, but Kyle Trask will get his time to prove himself as well, offensive coordinator Dave Canales says.
Mayfield has the experience (including playoff experience) of being a starter, while Trask has the advantage of sitting behind the goat (Tom Brady) for two seasons. On the flip side, Trask's only regular-season NFL playing time was during a meaningless Week 18 game in 2022, while Mayfield has been with four teams now. Both will get a good shot, and as Canales said, "Competition makes everybody great."

The (very) long process has finally come to an end. Lamar Jackson signed his contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday afternoon.

One of the biggest things the Green Bay Packers had to do this offseason after trading Aaron Rodgers is figure out what to do with now current starter Jordan Love. The Packers had until 4 pm ET to pick up or decline Love's fifth-year option; instead, they opted to sign him to a two-year deal to replace it. The deal is worth up to $22.5 million, with $13.5 million guaranteed.
This deal is a good bet for both sides - Green Bay gets a starting QB for cheap, while being able to show some confidence in him, Love gets a little more security and a chance to prove it.
If it works - great. The Packers are willing to push some chips into the center of the table in saying that Love is a valuable starter and he could play out the current deal. If it doesn't work, it's manageable for the team and not that expensive. I, personally, have not seen enough of Love to make a determination on how he'll be as a starting QB. I know this deal says that the Packers have seen enough to take the chance - but they also didn't really have much of a choice once the Rodgers trade went through. We'll have to wait and see on this one. more Qb news:
I swear if Tom Brady plays in 2023... When asked if he would come out of retirement and play for the Miami Dolphins, Brady didn't say no. In fact, he didn't answer the question at all.
Rumors of Brady to the Dolphins have circulated for years - from the Sean Payton fiasco before he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to him, here, saying he has friends on the Dolphins. Brady has insisted he is retired for real this time, but there's always going to be some doubt, considering he un-retired before. There's no way to tell how Brady will feel once training camp rolls around. And then once the season begins. And then when he's not playing in the postseason and competing for a Super Bowl. Please, Tom, let's not. more Qb news:
