tony romo gets $$$$$
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo cashed into a new announcing deal with CBS. The record-breaking multi-year deal stacks up to about $17 million per season. Tony is swimming in cash right now.
Romo is one of the best in business. I'm someone who is so used to watching games that I can tune out the talking, but Romo is one of the few that I can listen to without wanting to tear my hair out.
As for the money aspect, that is a lot -- more than most NFL players make in a year. If this is the going rate, more players might go this route after playing -- but they need to be good at it first.
offensive linemen aren't supposed to be this fast.
Louisville offensive lineman Mekhi Becton is the heaviest player in the NFL at 6'7" and 364 pounds. On Friday, someone that big ran a 5.11 40. Unheard of.
ladies and gentlemen, jonathan taylor.
Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor ran a 4.41 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine, just adding to his impressive resume.
Taylor was the first college player to rush for more than 6,000 yards in a three-year span, and the sixth most all-time rusher. Not bad -- the question is if he peaked in college. Can he carry this over in the NFL?
rumor has it, brady is gonna be a free agent.
ESPN's Jeff Darlington sparked rumor mills everywhere when he said on Thursday that he'd be "stunned" if Tom Brady stayed with the New England Patriots in 2020.
Lemme just say I'm calling BS on this immediately. I think this is all a created ploy by those who do it best -- Robert Kraft and company. They know what they're doing here. This is the biggest storyline of the offseason by far, everyone has their feelers out, and they want every single fanbase to feel like they might possibly get Brady.
It's not happening, and you heard it here first.
travis kelce really stirred up some shit.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end, and current Super Bowl Champion Travis Kelce sparked a ton of backlash by saying something along the lines of how he's excited to go to the White House. Nowadays, that's the last place anyone should ever want to be, so it's understandable that a lot of people questioned this, and his sanity. To the point where everyone made him explain himself:
The only way I'd willingly go to the White House was if there was an open bar and if Justin Timberlake was there. Those are the only circumstances.
a punter had 25 bench press reps.
Arizona State punter Michael Turk had 25 bench press reps, which is un-heard of for a kicker (since they literally don't use their arms ever).
He can brag about that one for the rest of time.
chase claypool tells the haters to stfu.
Every season, we have these so-called "experts" who think certain players should switch positions because they can't possibly be good at the one that they've played for a long time. This year, one of those players was Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool, who people thought should switch to tight end. This says otherwise.
and of course we have the 40.
The most talked-about combine drill is the 40. Henry Ruggs killed it with an unofficial 4.28.
Joe Burrow will most likely be a Cincinnati Bengal
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow will more likely than not be the first pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, and who has the first pick, you ask? The very unlucky and very terrible Cincinnati Bengals. Poor guy.
But cue the media, it's time to take one measly quote, and completely spin it out of control! Burrow said something along the lines of, that he'd love to go first overall, but wanted to go to a good team, etc. etc. (which clearly "good" and "team" aren't words that you put together to describe the Cincinnati football team).
Burrow clarified his comments during a press conference on Tuesday, saying he would play for the Bengals if they end up drafting him in April.
"Happily" is kinda pushing it, but there's your answer. RIP.
bill o'brien is handing over play-calling duties.
After seeming to have way too much under his belt (he's literally the head coach AND the general manager), Houston Texans' Bill O'Brien is handing over offensive play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Tim Kelly.
This should give O'Brien a little break and let him focus on being a head coach instead of a head coach and million other things.
mason crosby signs long-term deal with packers.
It's not the offseason until we have some kicker news on a Saturday afternoon. Mason Crosby signed a new three-year deal with the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Here are the deets:
Crosby went through a rough patch a while back, but unlike most NFL positions, the kicker's job is mostly mental. Once he got his confidence back, it's been pretty much smooth-sailing. As I've always said -- you don't realize how important a kicker is, until you don't have one. Looks like the Packers have that under control for a while.
josh Doctson signs with jets.
The New York Jets signed wide receiver Josh Doctson on Saturday.
Not a sexy signing, or a major one by any means. While Doctson hasn't lived up to his first-round status/hype, he could still have a comeback season. Doctson spent his first three seasons with the Washington Redskins before signing with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. He sat on injured reserve for a while before being waived. So, not a promising pick by any means, but Sam Darnold could definitely use some help in that area.
lions are holding onto danny AMENDOla.
After spending last season there, the Detroit Lions are re-signing wide receiver Danny Amendola, at least for another season.
I've raved about Matthew Stafford having a fantastic season in 2019 before he got injured, and Amendola was very quietly a part of that. It makes sense for both the team and the player to come back and give it another go.
As there always is, story lines were created to bring talk about Amendola going to whatever team Tom Brady ends up at, so they can reunite and hold hands into the sunset of BroTown, but unless Brady ends up in Detroit (nope), that won't be happening.
do the lions want to trade darius Slay?
The Detroit Lions have spoken to "multiple teams," according to Adam Schefter about trading their star cornerback (and the only good player on the team) Darius Slay. Hehe.
This sounds an awful lot like a "someone on the staff leaked this info just to see how everyone would feel about this" type of vibe. I'll take a guess and say this won't go over well with Lions fans, either.
mike tomlin defends his backup qb.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who usually has an "Imma stay out of it" attitude when it comes to issues like this with the media, backed his backup QB Mason Rudolph who claimed he didn't, under any circumstances, do the thing that Myles Garrett accused him of.
I will say, I like how Tomlin defended his player, while not putting down the other or accusing him of anything back -- more people should take that advice, imo.
jj watt got married this weekend.
One of the best people in the NFL, JJ Watt and soccer player and badass Kealia Ohai got married this past weekend in the Bahamas, and it looked like the best time ever.
rivers will 100% be a free agent in a month or so.
There was plenty of speculation earlier this year, and basically all signs pointed to YES, but both the Los Angeles Chargers and QB Philip Rivers confirmed that the two will part ways this offseason. Which means, if you're following along, Rivers will become a free agent.
Plenty of teams salivate over a veteran QB like this, so Rivers will 100% be signed somewhere. The ideal place would be a starting/mentoring position, and there will likely be plenty of those -- Cincy, for one. -eyeball emoji-
"brady is hitting the market this offseason."
This shit is in quotes because that's what they want you to believe. Tom Brady is not going ANYWHERE except the New England Patriots until the day he dies. Write this down, laminate it, and put it on your wall and it will be true when September rolls around.
The media just wants you to talk about it. That's it. It's not happening. End of story.

Jags will play back-to-back games in london.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Tuesday that they will be the first team in NFL history to play two games, back-to-back outside of the United States. Their home for two weeks? Wembley Stadium.
This sounds fun, I guess, it looks great for the whole ~international~ thing the NFL has been going for lately. Only one problem: Jaguars fans, specifically season ticket holders are pretty much cheated out of two home games. Fans are getting discounts on their tickets, but still -- the experience (AKA the tailgate) is such a Sunday tradition in Jacksonville, that I wouldn't blame fans if they didn't renew.
Not to mention the rumors of moving entirely that will be sparked on this news, but I'm not getting into that right now.
in more jags news -- trent baalke!
Tuesday was official Jaguars News Day. The Jacksonville Jaguars hired former San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke, for some reason.
If the former news wasn't enough for fans to not renew their season tickets, this will for sure be it.
the lombardi luge is my new favorite thing.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end and brand-new Super Bowl Champion Travis Kelce took drinking out of the Stanley Cup to a new level = drinking off of the Lombardi Trophy.
First of all, I'm having a hard time believing that this is the first time anyone has done this. Second of all, I have added this to the top of my bucket list.
Chiefs will host their parade on wednesday.
The Kansas City Chiefs did indeed beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV this weekend, and as a result, the team will host their traditional Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, Missouri (not Kansas). All the deets:
I assume all Chiefs fans will handle this celebration calmly and rationally.
super bowls should only be played in florida.
Next year's Super Bowl will also be held in Florida -- this time in Tampa Bay. The Super Bowl handoff ceremony took place on Monday.
It was cool how they tried to make, like Minnesota and stuff happen, but the Super Bowl should be in a warm weather state for the rest of time. That's just a fact.
katie sowers the goat.
They might have lost the Super Bowl, but San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Katie Sowers won. She won for every girl out there who wants to be involved in football -- all it takes is one.
vic beasley is no more in atl.
The Atlanta Falcons announced on Monday that they will not try to re-sign defensive end Vic Beasley this offseason. And I'll just leave this here.
The best super bowl celebration of all time.
After winning the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Derrick Nnadi paid off over a hundred dogs' adoption fees at a local Kansas City shelter.
I'm not crying, we're all crying.
vernon davis retires.
Washington Redskins tight end Vernon Davis officially announced his retirement on Monday, after semi-announcing it in a Super Bowl commercial with Rob Gronkowski.
