drew brees donates $5 million to covid-19 relief
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany are donating $5 million to help deliver meals to people in Louisiana who have been affected by COVID-19.
âLess anxiety. More of this.
chandler jones donates 150,000 meals to food banks
More of that, you ask? Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones is also donating food to locals who have been affected by COVID-19 -- this time in his hometown of Endicott, New York and in Arizona.
Amongst all the craziness, uneasiness, etc. it's good to know there are people out there who are always willing to help. We can sit here and complain all day about how we could have known about this sooner, or about how the youths were out on spring break for too long, but at the end of the day, you can only control you and your actions.
cam newton deserved better
After nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers, former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton is on the move. While most were expecting a trade, the system is completely fucked right now and Newton was released.
Imagine picking Nick Foles' contract over Cam Newton's. You can't!
In my opinion, Newton still has something left in the tank as long as he goes to the right place. The Los Angeles Chargers should be signing him yesterday; the Washington Redskins could also be a landing spot.
breshad perriman to the jets
The New York Jets signed (alleged) wide receiver Breshad Perriman to a one-year deal worth up to $8 million.
Perriman went against my wildest hopes last season with the Tampa Bay Bucs and actually played pretty decently. Hopefully he can keep that going in New York with Sam Darnold. I don't think he's an adequate replacement for Robby Anderson, however.
other notable signings:
The new rams logo is here
The Los Angeles Rams revealed their new logo on Monday, and I'm officially the only one who really doesn't hate it. Nothing gets people so up in arms like uniforms, colors and logo debates.
I'll never understand why this stuff makes people so up-in-arms.
xfl's pj walker signs with carolina
The Carolina Panthers were the first to take a bite out of the XFL, signing Houston Roughnecks quarterback PJ Walker.
Matt Rhule coached Walker at Temple, so there's the connection there. With QB Kyle Allen getting traded to the Washington Redskins, both Walker and Will Grier are solid backup options for Teddy Bridgewater. That backup QB competition is gonna be lit.
pats release stephen gostkowski
The New England Patriots are straight-up getting rid of all their old players. First it was Tom Brady, now it's the kicker.
Here's a stat that you don't really think about when it comes to kickers: Gostkowski has appeared in 28 playoff games, 4th-most in NFL history.
travis frederick retires
Dallas Cowboys center Travis Frederick announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday at age 29. Living the damn dream.
I'll always applaud players for making this decision, especially while they're still young. Players' health comes first, and the sad truth is, the NFL doesn't always think that way.
What's even more eerie: In the last five years, seven NFL players under the age of 30 have retired from football. And that number will keep going up, methinks.
ravens bring back anthony levine and jimmy smith
The Baltimore Ravens are intent on keeping last year's roster as together as possible in hopes that they'll finally win a playoff game this time. (/waits for hate tweets even though it's the truth) The team offered one-year contracts to both Anthony Levine Sr. and Jimmy Smith.
Gordon said it better than I can. Do what you can do right now to keep your team on the track you want them to be on. Go team.
Patriots bring back brian hoyer
The New England Patriots are replacing the greatest quarterback of all time with.... (drum roll please)..... Brian Hoyer. No, seriously.
If BRIAN HOYER is the Patriots' starter I will laugh until next year. This is too good.
Hoyer backed up Brady from 2009 to 2011, so cue all talk about the "Patriots' system." I get having a good back up who knows the team, but this certainly can't be it, right? If Bill Belichick can win a Super Bowl with this QB room, then he deserves to be President.
seattle signs chance warmack
After taking a year off from football, the Seattle Seahawks are signing offensive lineman Chance Warmack.
I don't hate it. This is the running theme with a lot of players -- good player when healthy, toss-up on if he remains healthy. But currently, Russell Wilson needs all the help he can get.
barkevious mingo and chuck pagano reunite
The Chicago Bears and linebacker Barkevious Mingo (one of my favorite names of all time) agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
Mingo and defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano previously worked together with the Indianapolis Colts.
tom brady and the bucs make it official
Unless you've been living under a rock lately, you would know that for some reason unbeknownst to me, Tom Brady, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, signed with (drumroll)...... the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They made it official on Friday, with the signing of the contract.
Where were you when you learned Brady would end his legendary career by going 7-9?
todd gurley signs with the falcons
After being released by the Los Angeles Rams, the Atlanta Falcons signed running back Todd Gurley to a one-year contract. The Falcons needed a running back after releasing Devonta Freeman.
Now they just need a quarterback.
melvin gordon heads to the broncos
Melvin Gordon is leaving the Los Angeles Chargers, yet he's staying in the division. The running back signed with the Denver Broncos, who are currently NOT receiving a Christmas present from me, on Friday.
Might be fun to note that Gordon turned down a deal from the Chargers worth more than this -- he decided to hold out, and now has to settle for less. Oh, the NFL.
emmanuel sanders is a saint
Maybe. Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is heading to the New Orleans Saints on a two-year deal.
An added weapon for Drew Brees: check.
the broncos didn't deserve joe flacco
After just one season, the Denver Broncos didn't realize the elitism they had in quarterback Joe Flacco and released him, citing a failed physical designation.
This is just baloney. But remember the time that Joe called out the Broncos' lack of offense and he was right? Remember that? Your QB could never.
sean payton is infected
This is really the NFL head coach that Coronavirus had to pick? New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed he tested positive for the 'Rona, making him the first NFL-related person to be confirmed with the virus.
Cute dog. He also encouraged everyone to listen to the government's orders to stay home, social distance, and not go on spring break you freaking rejects (I added that last part).
rams release todd gurley
This isn't all that shocking, but the Los Angeles Rams released running back Todd Gurley before they owed him a shit ton of money. $10.5 million would have been guaranteed on his contract unless he was released.
The Rams also cut linebacker Clay Matthews.
the redskins are interested in jameis winston
The Washington Redskins are said to be interested in quarterback Jameis Winston to back up Dwyane Haskins.
Haskins could use a rookie to help him -- but he needs an actual good rookie. Think Cam Newton. Hint hint.
big yikes for bill o'brien
On ESPN's Get Up, Michael Irvin made some ... interesting claims against Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien. He claimed that wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (who was just traded yesterday) told him that O'Brien compared him to Aaron Hernandez and pointed out that he had multiple baby mamas.
I don't really have anything much to say about this except -- yikes. Who cares how many baby mamas you have, first of all, who's business is that but your own? I also don't think he'd really have much to say if it was pointed out that Tom Brady also has more than one baby mama......
broncos get jurrell casey from the titans
The Tennessee Titans traded five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos just before the start of free agency on Wednesday. The Titans got a seventh-round pick in return.
The Broncos definitely needed help on defense, considering the amount of time that my lord and savior Joe Flacco came back for the win, just to have the defense completely blow it. Just saying.
malcolm jenkins close to deal with saints
Malcolm Jenkins spent five seasons with the New Orleans Saints before heading to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014. After being cut earlier this week, Jenkins looks to be back on the move to New Orleans.
I don't know if it's my being emotional from the 'Rona or not, but I'm filing this one under "feel good story." It'll likely be where he ends his career.
nick foles is a chicago bear
It finally happened. While my money was on Andy Dalton, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded quarterback Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears, as some competition for Mitch Trubisky. Jacksonville gets a fourth-rounder in return.
That means it's permanent (maybe?) Minshew Mania in Jacksonville. I like that.
On the Bears' end, I'm not sure if I really like this. Neither one of them is really great, while neither one is necessarily bad either. I think Trubisky is young enough to get another chance, a veteran will be good for him. His main downfall last season was his confidence, and he can get that back. Time will tellllllllllll (I'm slowly going insane).
ben garland stays in san fran
The San Francisco 49ers are sticking with center Ben Garland, signing him to a one-year, $2.25 million deal.
Like I always say: You don't realize how much you value a good center until you don't have one.
dante fowler to sign with atlanta
Free agent pass-rusher Dante Fowler is signing with the Atlanta Falcons
The Los Angles Rams apparently did try to hang on to him, so I'm gonna assume he went to Atlanta for the money, not the promise of winning a championship. We all know how I feel about that route.
chris harris goes to la
Corner Chris Harris is staying in the AFC West, but he's switching teams. The former Denver Bronco is heading to the Los Angeles Chargers.
There are reports that he turned down the Las Vegas Raiders, which is funny.
bruce irvin signs with the seahawks
Big day for dudes whose last names are Irvin. Veteran defensive end Bruce Irvin signed with the Seattle Seahawks shortly after the new league year began.
michael pierce heads to minnesota
The Minnesota Vikings are signing defensive tackle Michael Pierce to a pretty nice deal -- three years, $27 million, with $18 guaranteed.
After the signing of Michael Brockers, it was pretty clear Pierce wouldn't be back with the Baltimore Ravens. After being an undrafted guy, this pay day is not bad at all.
lions grab DESmond TRUANT
Cornerback Desmond Trufant is signing with the Detroit Lions on a two-year, $21 million deal. Now, all Darius Slay wants is to be traded ASAP.
tom brady is a patriot no more
Let me just start off by saying I am floored. I thought for sure he was staying. But no -- legendary quarterback Tom Brady announced on Tuesday that whatever his next football decision is, it will have nothing to do with the New England Patriots. He announced it himself (because of course he did) on his social media.
Never forget that Tom Brady's last game as a Patriot was a horrible L to the Tennessee Titans and his last pass was a pick-six. I'm sure Patriots fans everywhere are dealing with this calmly and rationally.
cam newton may or may not have wanted a trade
On Tuesday, news broke that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was given permission by the team to seek a trade. We all kind of knew that was coming. Plot twist: He fired back saying the team "forced" him into this, and it wasn't his choice.
It doesn't seem like we'll know for sure exactly what happened here, but the bottom line is: This was gonna happen regardless if they wanted it or not.
As for Cam? I think he's still got some left in the tank if, a) he's fully healthy; b) he goes to the right place. We shall see.
Drew Brees is staying in New Orleans - rejoice!
We knew this one was gonna happen too, it was just a matter of when. The New Orleans Saints and their QB Drew Brees agreed to a two-year, $50 million deal on Tuesday for him to remain with the team.
This more than likely means he'll be a Saint for life. Hashtag blessed.
cory littleton to the raiders
Ex-Los Angeles Rams linebacker Cory Littleton signed a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders (still weird to say that).
This is an under-the-radar pick, but you'll see soon enough how this will benefit them.
vic BEASleY signs with the titans
Former Atlanta Falcons pass-rusher Vic Beasley signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
Win/win on this deal. Get a guy who's good when healthy and only committed for one season if he's not.
DJ Reader to the bengals.
Defensive tackle DJ Reader is signing a four-year, $53 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals for some reason.
And the Bengals aren't done yet.
alex lewis staying in new york (new jersey).
Offensive lineman Alex Lewis is staying put with the New York Jets, as he signed a deal on Tuesday for three years and $18.6 million.
This is a little much, in my opinion. He's a solid guy, versatile, but that's a lot of money for someone with his injury history.
two watts in pittsburgh
God dammit, why do they have to do this to me? Fullback Derek Watt is joining his brother, linebacker TJ Watt on the Pittsburgh Steelers next season.
JJ gonna sign here too, or what?
shaq barrett gets the tag
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are using their franchise tag on pass rusher Shaq Barrett, keeping him around for at least another year.
Don't have much "analysis" on this one -- no-brainer. Barrett lead the league in sacks last season with 19.5.
falcons release two veterans
The Atlanta Falcons are releasing Devonta Freeman and Desmond Truant ahead of free agency.
Falcons seem to be either cleaning house and/or saving money. I'm going for both. Their window has been sealed shut.
dak prescott gets a tag
We knew this was coming, but the Dallas Cowboys are putting the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott.
Another no-brainer here. Anyone who thought he was going elsewhere is nuts. The Cowboys have until July 15 to get a long-term deal done here, and they should do it like, yesterday.
austin hooper becomes the league's highest-paid te
The Cleveland Browns are adding former Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has absolutely no excuses now, right?
deandre hopkins goes to the CARDINALS
In one of the most head-scratching trades I can remember, the Houston Texans are trading wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.
Not sure what Bill O'Brien is doing here, but the Texans will receiver two picks and running back David Johnson, who had one good season when he started on your fantasy team that one time. For one of the best receivers in the league? We're gonna be wondering about this one for a while.
The NFL draft is still on - but we can't go to it
Is the first NFL Twitter Draft in our near future? With the 2020 NFL Draft on schedule to happen in April, coronavirus is threatening to change that. On Monday, the NFL announced that all public draft events pertaining to the draft are canceled. Read the full statement below:
Todd gurley might be next
The Los Angeles Rams could be looking to trade their star running back Todd Gurley this offseason.
They want some value, and don't have a lot of picks right now, but that's a big contract for another team to take over.
the lions aren't exactly doing good things
The Detroit Lions are making splashes (if you want to call them that) in free agency. They signed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai (you have no idea how long it took me to type that) to a new deal.
This is a lot of money for a not-so-great of a player. This dude has played four games in the past two seasons. Brain fart on the Lions' part.
Aj klein to the bills
The Buffalo Bills agree to terms with the former New Orleans Saints linebacker AJ Klein.
what are the texans doing?
No, really. Someone tell me. The Houston Texans agreed to terms with wide receiver Randall Cobb on Monday night. The deal gives him $18.75 million guaranteed.
Call me crazy, but replacing DeAndre Hopkins with Cobb may not pan out so well.
diggs to the bills!
This is probably the trade that makes the most sense to me from Day One. The Buffalo Bills traded for wide receiver Stefon Diggs, giving quarterback Josh Allen a little something else to work with.
I really like this one for both sides: Diggs wanted to get out, Bills give him a chance to be "the guy." What could go wrong....
titans release delanie walker and ryan succop
This is the time of the year when teams are releasing players like they have the Coronavirus. No? Not a good joke.
The Tennessee Titans released veteran tight end Delanie Walker and kicker Ryan Succop on Friday.
Cutting Walker saves the team almost $2 million in cap space, and the team is choosing to go with the young buck at kicker, Greg Joseph.
vikings cut xavier rhodes and linval joseph
Continuing cuts, the Minnesota Vikings released cornerback Xavier Rhodes and defensive tackle Linval Joseph.
matt slater signs extension with patriots
Special teamer Matthew Slater and the New England Patriots agreed on a two-year extension on Friday evening.
While most people have those weird, automated email newsletters, my email list gets an email straight from me every week >>>>
