Patriots' Marqise Lee the seventh Patriot to opt out

New England Patriots wide receiver ​Marqise Lee is the latest player to opt out of the 2020 NFL season, making him the seventh on the team to do so.

Lee became a father in February, so this decision is a valid one (as they all are). 

After @globejimmcbride reported that Patriots WR Marqise Lee is opting out of the season, I just spoke with Lee.

Lee became a first-time father in February to a daughter, Alia.

"We just feel like it wasn't smart for us to go out and play this year," Lee told me.

While I, personally, have been patiently waiting for the inevitable downfall of the Patriots for years, this isn't the way I wanted it to go down. A reminder that everyone who is making this choice, is not doing it easily. It's extremely tough for these guys to choose between their families' health and their careers that they worked their entire lives for to play at a professional level. ​
