Cam Newton throws at Auburn's Pro Day

Former MVP (see how we can use that whenever we want? and Carolina Panthers/New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton threw more than 30 passes on Tuesday at Auburn's Pro Day. Newton obviously is looking for a return to the NFL, as he hasn't played since 2021.

Newton was also showcasing his brother, Caylin Newton, a wide receiver.

• Plenty of New England Patriots fans were divided on the decision to start either Bailey Zappe or Mac Jones last season. Apparently, that was not limited to just the fans. Recently retired teammate Devin McCourty said some players wanted Zappe under center, while others favored Jones. "I think there were some guys in the locker room that were like, 'Let's go with Zappe.' Or, 'No, Mac looked good today.' Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy isn't letting the details slip, either. "I would love to tell you everything you want to know about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets but I'm sworn to secrecy not to say anything," he said.
  

• The San Francisco 49ers desperately needed a quarterback in the NFC Championship Game, but it wasn't for not trying. Recently retired QB Ben Roethlisberger claims the team contacted him to see just how interested he was in returning to the field. "They were, I think, reaching out maybe just to gauge my interest. I had discussions... I'd be lying if I didn't say there was a small part of me that was intrigued."
