The Los Angeles Rams flew across the country to visit the Washington Football Team, who still don't have a real name, and beat the pants off of them, 30-10. But that wasn't the top story of the day in Landover.
Aside from former starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins being benched for Kyle Allen (and then staying home because he had a sick tummy), ears were raised when Washington announced that Alex Smith would be the backup. Fast forward a little while to game-time. Allen endures a helmet-to-helmet shot from Rams CB Jalen Ramsey and is out of the game. Next up? Smith. I'm not going to go through the whole Smith-injury story. While it's a great comeback and good for him and all that jazz, if you're like me, you're watching through your fingers, hoping no one hits him. Rams QB Jared Goff took some time to speak on Smith's comeback, calling it "amazing."

Ever since the Denver Broncos lost star linebacker Von Miller to a leg injury a mere few days ago, they have been looking high and low for a replacement since the season starts...... today. Free agent Clay Matthews is one of the top choices for a last-minute option, but it looks like that won't be happening.
This is probably the reason why Matthews hasn't been picked up yet. He didn't play poorly last season until he landed on injured reserve with a broken jaw. The Los Angeles Rams released Matthews early this offseason, which followed with him filing a grievance with the team. Hence the reason another team hasn't signed him; if he takes money somewhere else, that means the Rams don't owe him. I hope that makes sense. updated with response from agent:
While, above, I assume that he doesn't want to play this year because of said grievance, his agent released a statement explaining that Matthews is still open to playing this season, as long as it's for the "right" team. Aka, if the money is good enough to offset the grievance.
The Los Angeles Rams are locking up a few key players. First was cornerback Jalen Ramsey, next up looks to be wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
That seems smart, as Kupp is heading into the last year of his rookie deal. Next up: Restructuring that god-awful Jared Goff deal.
Rookie linebacker Terrell Lewis was placed on the non-football injury list on Wednesday, as he's dealing with a mysterious knee injury.
Lewis will be out for six weeks before becoming eligible to return to the active roster.
Los Angeles Rams linebacker Travin Howard will miss the 2020 season due to a meniscus injury that will require surgery.
Howard spent his rookie year on the practice squad last season, and his spot was purely a depth position. However, now the Rams have even more problems with depth at the linebacker position. |
