The first highlight of the night came on fourth down as Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams caught a 58-yard touchdown from quarterback Derek Carr. The Raiders at least realize that you have to be aggressive when going against the Kansas City Chiefs. And yet, if they didn't convert, we wouldn't hear the end of it.

The Chiefs got on the scoreboard with their first touchdown with a classic Mahomes to Travis Kelce touchdown in the second quarter.

A familiar combo for 6. □@PatrickMahomes | @tkelce

It's never good when the most exciting thing during a game is a controversial roughing the passer call. After what happened to Tom Brady on Sunday, this call was somehow worse. Chris Jones was called for roughing Carr, who didn't even possess the ball. I'm not going to rant about this because it will take me all night, but the NFL has to do something about this. It's been two days in a row that the game has been affected by this.

What is Chris Jones supposed to do here??? What on Earth is he supposed to do???? He HAS to finish this play. Awful. pic.twitter.com/vrkAhbeJhR

Despite a shaky start, the Chiefs came away with the win. Travis Kelce ended the night with a career-high four touchdowns.
QUICK HITS:
  • TE Darren Waller exited the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and was listed as questionable to return. He went to the locker room in the second quarter after being on the sideline. Waller was finally ruled out in the third quarter.
  • WR Davante Adams shoved a cameraman after the loss, making him subject to fines and/or a suspension from the league. The NFL is investigating.

more:

  • The first head to roll: The Carolina Panthers fired their head coach, Matt Rhule, on Monday after a 1-4 start. The roster is putrid, so this isn't entirely on him, but his inability to create at least some sort of 'oomph' and desire to actually win was the nail in the coffin. Passing game coordinator and secondary coach Steve Wilks (who was one-and-done with the Arizona Cardinals) will take over as interim head coach.

Panthers fired HC Matt Rhule, who has gone 11-27 during his three seasons in Carolina.

Rhule leaves Carolina with four years left on the seven-year contract he received from Panthers’ owner David Tepper in January 2020.

  • Speaking of bad days for the Panthers, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield will miss time with a high-ankle sprain he acquired on Sunday. Mayfield left the game just before halftime, and while he did finish the game, he was seen in a walking boot afterward. More tests will be conducted to determine how long Mayfield will be sidelined, but PJ Walker is set to start in Week Six. Don't even ask about Sam Darnold.

#Panthers QB Baker Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday’s game, sources say. That means he’ll miss time, but how much will be determined by more tests and opinions. PJ Walker in line to start at QB this week vs. the #Rams.

  • Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny broke his fibula (leg) in Week 5's matchup and will miss the rest of the season. This particular injury requires surgery, adding to his long list of injuries sustained in his career. Penny will be a free agent in 2023.

Rashaad Penny needs surgery, Pete says. Adds that the high-ankle element of the injury makes it even trickier in terms of surgery and recovery. “Going to take a number of months,” Pete says.

  • Baltimore Ravens safety Marcus Williams dislocated his wrist Sunday night and will miss a good chunk of the season. Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters on Monday that while he will go on injured reserve, he doesn't think it is a season-ender. Williams has been impressive this season after signing with Baltimore as a free agent this offseason. This is a blow for an already-struggling Ravens secondary.

Harbaugh said that Marcus Williams (dislocated wrist) will go on I.R. "It will be a significant amount of time. It won't be a season ender, though."

oof of the day:

Ron Rivera was asked why the other three teams in the NFC East are better than the Washington Commanders right now.

His answer: "Quarterback."
