Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas unexpectedly passed away at age 33 last December. Doctors at Boston University have now determined that the star WR had stage two CTE at his time of death.

Breaking: Beloved #NFL WR Demaryius Thomas had Stage 2 #CTE when he died at 33. I arranged his brain donation to the VA-BU-@ConcussionLF Brain Bank where @annmckeemd @bu_cte made the diagnosis. He struggled with erratic behavior, memory loss, & paranoia. https://t.co/7t8x4Q7WQV

Thomas was known to suffer from seizures in the last years of his life, one of which caused a 2019 car accident. One of the more disturbing quotes stated in the doctors' report was regarding these seizures. "His behavior became increasingly erratic in the last year of his life, which was marked by the memory loss, paranoia, and isolation that are hallmarks of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head hits."

While an official cause of death has not yet been determined, it has been stated that Thomas suffered a seizure while in the shower.

Thomas spent eight seasons with the Broncos, where he won a Super Bowl and had four Pro Bowl seasons.

  • NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday that the Seattle Seahawks "have never really been that interested" in Baker Mayfield for the starting quarterback position. I'm not buying this one -- way too many reports have suggested otherwise. It's also possible Seattle is trying to push the Cleveland Browns into thinking they're no longer interested in lowering the price, aka make the Browns responsible for more of Mayfield's salary to get rid of him.

  • Speaking of the Seahawks... the owner of both the Seahawks and the Portland Trailblazers reportedly has to sell both teams. However, owner Jody Allen released a statement on Tuesday stating that the sale of those teams may not be happening anytime soon. The Seahawks may have more significant problems long-term than who will be under center come September.

  • Wide receiver Terry McLaurin officially signed his three-year extension with the Washington Commanders on Tuesday. McLaurin, the lone bright spot on that Washington team, will receive $34.6 million fully guaranteed. Not bad for a Tuesday.

  • The Dallas Cowboys had a break-out year on defense in 2021. Linebacker Micah Parsons thinks himself and cornerback Trevon Diggs could become one of the league's best duos. Parsons led all rookies in sacks, and Diggs led the league in interceptions last season, but it's a little too early for this.

Micah Parsons on he & Trevon Diggs as a defensive duo:

“It’s hard to put us over Aaron Donald... with Jalen Ramsey.... so I won’t do it yet. But I think we can become them or even better if we just learn together and we can stick together.”

  • The Green Bay Packers already lost Davante Adams this offseason, and now they may be without tight end Robert Tonyan for the start of the 2022 season. Tonyan tore his ACL last winter and the team doesn't have a sure timetable on when he will be returning. It seems like QB Aaron Rodgers might be without one of his favorite targets come September.

Twenty-nine teams had at least one TE with more receiving yards than the Packers' TE receiving yards leader. Eight teams had two.

ooof of the day:

  • The Dallas Cowboys announced a new partnership on Tuesday. And it's about as tone deaf as you can imagine, given current events.
