Friday Morning Football: Season Opener was a snoozer

We waited so long for this and this is what we got. In a nutshell, Thursday night's NFL Kickoff was boring as hell, starting with the Meghan Trainor pump-up session to Cris Collinsworth harping about how Aaron Rodgers didn't play in the preseason every three seconds. And I seem to have forgotten how there are 700 commercials per minute.

Green Bay ended up beating the Bears 10-3. No seriously, that was the score.

What I've gathered from one game:
  1. Chicago's defense is still really good. Any time you can hold Aaron Rodgers (even if he doesn't have his greatest game) down, that's a good look on you. Leonard Floyd came away with two sacks, and Khalil Mack is still Khalil Mack.
  2. We still don't know if the Bears' kicker is good. They say he's the guy, but is he really? He'll need to make more kicks, and they'll need to trust him in harder situations as the season goes on for us to find out.
  3. If the NFL gets rid of preseason like everyone wants, be prepared for like two weeks of games like this. Rodgers didn't play a snap in preseason (with a new head coach) and it showed. Most people don't like preseason because of unnecessary injury, but it really does give you time to prepare.
  4. The NFL is still the flag show. I rolled my eyes a ton, do I need to say more?

The minuscule highlights/lowlights (cause we can't be too picky):

  • Eddy Pineiro made a kick! After searching high and low for an entire offseason, the Bears' new kicker actually made 38-yarder to put up the first points of the season and give Chicago the lead. The fans broke out in cheers louder than I've ever heard for a fucking kicker. But I guess you gotta take it. Just wait till he misses an easy one in three weeks and everyone turns on him. Love that for him.

EDDY! EDDY! EDDY!

  • The first touchdown of the NFL season goes to... none other than Jimmy Graham. Just like we all expected.

  • By halftime, I was falling asleep, and it was clear the defenses had this one covered. Whether you think lack of playing time preseason is the reason for how the offense looked (Rodgers didn't play at all; Trubisky played only three snaps), that's up to you to figure out. But they both clearly need to get the show on the road.
  • Allen Robinson was the (only?) bright spot for the Bears' offense. This grab was his first big play of the night.

  • 3rd and 40 should be an automatic punt. But I should be allowed to pick up the coach and physically punt him out of the stadium.

  • Of course Adrian Amos was the one to finally save the day for the Packers. The former Bear intercepted Trubisky in the end zone with just two minutes left, basically saving the Packers' ass and closing the game.
