Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor appeared to announce his retirement from the NFL on Sunday evening in a tweet, after suffering a season ending neck injury last season.

At just 30, Chancellor appeared in four Pro Bowls, and was a defining member of the Seahawks' Legion of Boom (no longer existent), which earned him a Super Bowl ring.

While Chancellor was one of my favorite players to watch in today's NFL, it's clear this is the right decision for him. Neck injuries ain't no joke.

Buzz-worthy:

  • Steve Smith Sr. is saying things on the television again. Those types of things.... well... uhhhh.... "Chicago has a history of winning. They want it. They want it tomorrow. They want it like the 32-year-old woman, she’s pregnant, she wants the ring now.” Not really entirely sure what that means but never change, Steve.
  • Cleveland Browns No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield got engaged this weekend to his gf Emily. I did some Insta stalking and that's pretty much all I know about her. I will go on the record and say that getting married at 23 is DUMB, but that's just my opinion. At least he'll get some sort of ring soon.
  • New England Patriots head coach and basically my neighbor Bill Belichick released a statement on the Annapolis shootings this past week. Belichick was raised in Annapolis, and mentioned the Capital Gazette being his hometown newspaper for years.
  • Lebron James is officially an LA Laker. The Los Angeles Rams were in it from the beginning. Not much of a basketball fan myself, but I'm here for the photos of Philip Rivers, Jared Goff and Lebron hanging out. Please. And Sean McVay. Always Sean.
  • Mike Glennon and his extremely long neck said that even though he's not starting in the NFL, he's "still living the dream." What team is he even on right now? I had to Google - it's the Arizona Cardinals. I mean, I get it. This dude doesn't have the pressure (or skill, really) to be a starting QB, so he gets paid boatloads of money to just fuck around and hold a clipboard. He is truly living the dream.
  • Baltimore Ravens safety Eric Weddle took to Twitter to revisit an old scouting report of his. It appears that they were not correct.
  • Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey expressed some thoughts on the new kickoff rules - could there be more returns? “More returns could be an unintended consequence of the new rules,” Bailey said. “If eight members of the return team have to be lined up within 15 yards of the spot of kickoff, what’s to keep the kicker from just popping it right over the top? That could be dangerous. Not maybe a concussion, but guys being in a scrum trying to get to a popped-up ball and maybe getting an ankle rolled.”
  • Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had some words to say about Donald Trump (and while I don't really like to get political #onhere, it was too true to not be said) - “I think Trump is more closed-minded and he thinks the reason that we’re kneeling is because of the flag. When that’s like not at all the reason we’re kneeling.”
  • Now retired, wide receiver Percy Harvin opened up to Sports Illustrated about his mental stresses, migraines, and anxiety while playing in the NFL. “Take a hammer and beat it on the side of your head nonstop. If you’re trying to relax, if someone’s trying to talk to you, that hammer is still going off. You’re trying to eat, still going off.” AND YEAH TRY TO HAVE A GREAT DAY AFTER READING THAT.
  • This will make you feel better. Washington Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice raised $21,000 for a cancer center in his hometown of Baton Rouge - the center that helped his best friend's mother undergo cancer treatments. “I just feel like there’s more and more you can always do to help find a better cure, or just keep finding little things by little things to find a cure for cancer.”

What I'm reading today:

  • Two meteorite-like objects fall from sky in Muzaffarnagar village (Hindustan Times)
  • Cameron Wake keeps getting wiser, and so do Miami Dolphins for signing him (Palm Beach Post)
  • Jaguars OC Nathaniel Hackett thinks his unit ready to handle higher expectations (Florida Times-Union)
  • Emmanuel Sanders says he has "something to prove" this year -- to the Broncos or maybe another team (The Athletic)
  • The search for Jackie Wallace (Nola.com)
