New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was benched in Sunday's game (yes, again) and was replaced by backup Bailey Zappe. The Pats were trailing the New Orleans Saints 31-0. This also happened last week against the Dallas Cowboys (they were losing 38-3 before Zappe replaced Jones). The Patriots have gone two straight games without a touchdown.
Head coach Bill Belichick isn't giving us any indication that the team is going to move on from Jones, pointing to the score as the reason why Jones was riding the bench. "Yeah, there were a lot of problems, it certainly wasn't all him," Belichick said post-game.
If New England does choose to stick with Jones, you'd have to think his leash is getting shorter. Zappe was given extra practice reps during Week 5's practice sessions, and you kinda have to think that happens again in Week 6.
