Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, with what the team ended up calling a "false positive" test. While it's still uncertain how they can possibly know that for a fact (do not argue with me), Stafford did end up testing negative multiple times.
The league has since revised their plans for players who are asymptomatic and positive, in case another "false positive" test shall occur, while still following standard protocols to keep everyone safe. Or, at least, to the best of their abilities. Stafford spoke to reporters on Tuesday, where he mentioned that he was glad it happened to him early on, before the season began, so that himself and other players would not potentially miss time on the field.
Honestly, it probably will happen again. But I'd rather teams be overly cautious than not cautious enough. With everything Stafford and his wife Kelly had been through in the past year with her medical issues, and their young kids, this is probably the best outcome possible.
