As expected, the Las Vegas Raiders informed Derek Carr of his release. As a result, Carr will get a head start in free agency and is expected to have a heavy market. Carr previously met with the New Orleans Saints and should visit with more teams before deciding.

The Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans are also expected to be interested in Carr. The move also frees up $29 million in cap space, which the Raiders may need to get a new quarterback.

Raiders officially informed QB Derek Carr that he has been released, per source. Team released him before $40.4 million in his contract became guaranteed today.

more QB news:

  • The Indianapolis Colts announced the hiring of former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen on Tuesday. The Colts have a pretty tragic recent history with quarterbacks, and the hiring of Steichen is supposed to be some sort of "new era." Owner Jim Irsay confirmed that he plans to draft and develop a young quarterback in this year's draft.

  • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts capped off his third season with a Super Bowl appearance. While he did not win, he had an excellent performance and earned himself some money. Hurts is eligible for an extension this season, and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said earlier this season that he plans to keep him around, but Hurts isn't focused on that a mere two days after the Super Bowl. "The only thing I care about is winning and ultimately winning championships. There will be a day when that conversation can be had, but today isn't that day."
  • Original reports stated that Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was doing his "darkness retreat" starting this Monday, and it turns out it's not until the end of the week. Rodgers was heated about this false report. (When he could just correct it.) "There's an inner circle, and in my inner circle, nobody talks to Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter or any of those people. Just stop with the fake news. I speak for myself, and I will continue to do that." Ironic that Rodgers is speaking about fake news.
