Look at that face. That's the face of a starting NFL quarterback (or a human Lego person). The New York Jets announced on Monday that their first-round pick Sam Darnold will start Week One. This shouldn't be that big of a surprise if you've been paying attention to Jets' camp slash preseason (I know it's probably exhilarating). It was probably even less of a surprise when they traded away Teddy Bridgewater. Darnold's other competition was Backstreet Boy Josh McCown, who's been on every single NFL team at this point.
Darnold will be the youngest quarterback to start for an NFL team on opening weekend since 1970. He's 21, which makes him about 12. He's the only quarterback drafted in the first-round who will be starting (at least right now) among Josh Rosen (who I'm willing to be money on will start before the season is over), Lamar Jackson (who will sit for at least a year), Josh Allen (I'd also expect him to start at some point this season after the Buffalo Bills begin their annual downward spiral), Baker Mayfield (same - add him to the infamous Cleveland Browns jersey ahead of time). buzz-worthy:
