The moment we've all been waiting for - we finally know who will be starting for the Washington Commanders going forward. Head coach Ron Rivera announced on Wednesday that quarterback Taylor Heinicke will start for the team in Week 11 against the Houston Texans.

Taylor Heinicke will start Sunday in Houston, Ron Rivera said.

Carson Wentz is still on injured reserve with a finger injury, but he is eligible to resume throwing. It's unclear whether Heinicke will remain the starter for the remainder of the season, or if it's just next week.

In my personal opinion, I think Heinicke has more than earned it. The offense plays better with him, and his record (3-1 as a starter) shows it. He'll get a gimme game against the Texans, but beating the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles was a huge momentum shift for the Commanders.

more qb news:

  • Kliff Kingsbury said QB Kyler Murray remains day-to-day with a hamstring injury. Backup QB Colt McCoy is also dealing with a knee injury, so if neither can go this week it will be none other than Trace McSorley. Can't wait! Note: Murray initially injured his hamstring in Week Eight vs. the Minnesota Vikings, per an ESPN report.

Kingsbury injury updates:

- Confirms TE Zach Ertz done for the season
- Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy day to day. Hopes at least one of them will be available.
- said there is a “chance” Hollywood Brown will play

  • Josh Allen has had an uncharacteristic streak of turnovers in the past four games, leaving people wondering what, exactly, is up with him? Allen spoke on Wednesday and acknowledged that most of it was due to pressing, or trying to get too much done. "I can make a play or I can trust somebody else to make a play that I've battled with my entire football career, and trying to do too much sometimes." Note: Allen was limited in Wednesday's practice.
  • The Indianapolis Colts put QB Matt Ryan back in the lineup last week, and there he will remain. Cause if an 87-year old Matt Ryan has to save you, that means you're down bad.

If this wasn’t already clear, Jeff Saturday confirmed it today: “Matt Ryan is our starting quarterback.”

  • New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Andy Dalton will continue as the starting quarterback this week. Joy.
  • Ryan Tannehill exited the Tennessee Titans' injury report and should be good to go for Thursday Night Football.
  • As Deshaun Watson is now back practicing with the Cleveland Browns, current starter Jacoby Brissett said he's only focused on what he can control - himself. "It's the coach's job to balance how he splits things up and stuff like that. I just have to go out there and prepare like I always prepare."
  • Baker Mayfield will be starting for the Carolina Panthers this week, but Sam Darnold is also cleared and ready to go after a high ankle sprain has kept him out for most of the season. Head coach Steve Wilks basically said there's a possibility they'll turn to Darnold at some point, even if it's not this week. "I just want to be able to get Sam some opportunities. Because the first time that he goes in there, I don't want it to be the first time."
