The Eagles are defeated no more

The Philadelphia Eagles are undefeated no more. Unfortunately, the Eagles played their worst game all season with three turnovers. While the game went back and forth for most of the duration, it wasn't as close as the score might suggest. The Eagles couldn't keep the Washington Commanders off the field (not something I thought I'd ever say), and it seemed like every time Philly seemed to get it together, they turned the ball over.

Neither quarterback impressed, but Washington QB Taylor Heinicke celebrated in style on the flight home. If this doesn't seal him keeping the starting job, I'm not sure what will.

other qb news:

  • The Carolina Panthers will start Baker Mayfield at quarterback this week as PJ Walker is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Sam Darnold will be the backup. Mayfield hasn't played well this season, so I wouldn't be surprised if they turned to Darnold to see what he has in a last-ditch effort.

With P.J. Walker dealing with a high ankle sprain, Panthers’ HC Steve Wilks told reporters that Baker Mayfield will start Sunday vs. Baltimore.

  • Aaron Rodgers has been silently (and sometimes, not so silently) begging for a wide receiver to show up for the Green Bay Packers. On Sunday, we finally had the Christian Watson Emergence Game. Rodgers spoke about it postgame. "We had a lot of plays designed for him, so I don't think there was any other option. I think that first touchdown, probably on the atomic level, shifted a lot of different things for him, exorcising some demons. I'm proud of him. He made some plays." Of course, this is how Rodgers explains this.
  • Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson isn't allowed to play until Week 13, but this is the first week he's allowed to practice with the team. While I'm sure this is an upgrade for the Browns on the field, it's a downgrade as far as morals go.

Under the terms of his 11-game suspension, Browns’ QB Deshaun Watson is eligible to begin practicing, effective today. He can make his season debut in Week 13 at Houston against his former team.

  • In one of the biggest blunders of the day, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady tried (and failed) to catch a pass from running back Leonard Fournette. Brady gave the play-by-play version postgame. "It was too late, and the ball went up in the air, and I was trying to just, whatever, jump up and knock it down. But I ended up falling on my face."
  • Matt Ryan got the start for the Indianapolis Colts this weekend and left guard Quenton Nelson had nothing but good things to say about him getting his job back.

Quenton Nelson on Matt Ryan — this speaks for most of the locker room, which never wanted to see Ryan benched in the first place:

  • People (aka me) are waiting for the Atlanta Falcons to release Desmond Ridder into the wild, and it doesn't appear that that could be happening anytime soon. However, head coach Arthur Smith says he didn't consider benching starter Marcus Mariota on Sunday, and "If we were going to make a change, I'd tell you. You'd see it at practice."
  • Stop me if you've heard this before, but Dennis Allen and the New Orleans Saints are undecided on the quarterback position for next week. There's a chance they could end the Andy Dalton Experiment and go back to Jameis Winston. The Saints play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Dennis Allen said he’ll sit down and visit with Jameis Winston, will talk to the medical staff, etc, said they have to do what gives the team the best chance to win. Said he has not made a decision at QB yet, but sounds like Winston is a possibility.
