The Espys start out on a high note

the 2020 Espy awards started off with a powerful message

These awards were different this year -- instead of honoring the best team, best player, etc. they honored those who are doing things for other people off the field, something we all kind of need right now. Seattle Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson was joined by Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird to remotely host this event, and they started things off with a message that everyone should watch.

"This is our moment to prove that we know a better world is one where Black lives are valued."@DangeRussWilson, @S10Bird and @mPinoe open the 2020 #ESPYS. pic.twitter.com/ntJzgtkhMq

brett favre says kaepernick will be known as a hero, like pat tILLMAN

In an interview with TMZ Sports, retired Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre compared Colin Kaepernick and Pat Tillman, calling them both heroes. Favre went on to state that Kaepernick deserves another chance to play in the NFL.

https://t.co/KgfhWQyB55 Brett Favre says Colin Kaepernick's willingness to leave his NFL career to fight for social justice reminds him of Pat Tillman's ultimate sacrifice ... and now, he's telling TMZ Sports he thinks both will be remembered as heroes.

I'm on the fence about this, just because I disagree with using Tilman's name as a way to prove anyone's point. Tilman's wife Marie, stated a few years ago that he would not have wanted that, so I think it's best to respect it. However, I can see the similarity there -- both chose to give up professional sports careers that they loved for something they felt was more important, and that, in itself, is admirable. The people who just choose to see that he was "inappropriately kneeling" or "disrespecting the flag" won't see it that way. Kaepernick is a hero, whether those people like it or not.
