The New York Giants and Daniel Jones' agent have been working hard at hammering out a new deal for the QB, including meeting in Indianapolis. With Tuesday's franchise tag deadline looming, both sides hope they will get something done before then but are willing to tag him if they can't reach an agreement.

A new report came out on Friday that Jones is asking for more then $45 million per year. This report makes it seem more likely that the Giants will stick the tag on Jones before the deadline.

An update suggested on Friday that the team and Jones are progressing in contract talks, and still hope to get a deal done by the deadline.

An update late Saturday night stated that Jones' agents left Indianapolis with no deal in sight. As the clock ticks, Monday and Tuesday will be key for the Giants and Jones' team to work something out.

Giants GM Joe Schoen on contract talks with QB Daniel Jones, from @gmfb this morning:

"You're starting to feel the time crunch a little bit. I wish we were a little bit closer on a deal than what we are right now. But again, there's still time."

Have heard in recent days there has been progress between Daniel Jones and the #Giants. Getting something done by Tuesday doesn’t seem unreasonable. It sounds as if there will be a four at the front of the annual salary.

After several days of meetings at the combine, #Giants officials and Daniel Jones’ agents from Athletes First are expected to leave Indianapolis on Sunday with no contract resolution in sight, per sources.

more QB news:

  • The New Orleans Saints are in the veteran (and possibly rookie) quarterback market and have met with free agent QB Derek Carr twice. Head coach Dennis Allen spoke highly of Carr, stating that he's the type of quarterback the Saints are looking for. "I think he's highly competitive; he's highly intelligent; he's got a great work ethic; he's an outstanding leader. Those are all qualities I like about him, and those are qualities that we like in the quarterback position."
    • Carr has met with the New York Jets twice, and head coach Robert Saleh also had good things to say about the free agent. Saleh compared his situation to Matthew Stafford's a few seasons ago before getting traded to the Los Angeles Rams. "I think he's more in line with what Stafford's career has been. If you can just get him to a place that can surround him with all the pieces to just allow him to play quarterback 10-15 times a game, it would be pretty cool."
    • A report surfaced on Sunday that Carr has a "slight lean" towards the Jets.

While the #Panthers and #Saints remain in the conversation for Derek Carr, the former Pro Bowl quarterback has a slight lean toward the #Jets as his next home as of now, per source. Nothing is final, but Jets -- who are linked to Aaron Rodgers -- have made an impression.

  • Quarterback Sam Howell only played one game in 2022 for the Washington Commanders, and it was in Week 18, but he has the support of his teammates who worked with him throughout the season. Wide receiver Jahan Dotson said Howell is ready to compete for the starting job in 2023. "I know he's ready for the opportunity. He has all the talent in the world. Literally, he can make every single throw on the football field, and he makes it look effortless."
  • The Las Vegas Raiders are the current betting favorites to land QB Aaron Rodgers, should he decide not to retire from the NFL.
  • QB Bryce Young has been ranked in the top ten by most experts, yet one of the knocks against him has been his size. But, according to most evaluators, size doesn't matter when having Young on the top of their draft boards. It'll be interesting to see which team wins the war of trading up with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 pick.

From NFL Now: Bryce Young will be measured tomorrow, but whatever the answers end up being are unlikely to affect his status as the probable top pick. pic.twitter.com/9vLzrD53aS

  • Wide receiver prospect Jordan Addison played with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett in college before transferring and says he wouldn't mind playing with him again in the NFL. "That'll help the transitions a lot. Just having your former quarterback, you already got a relationship, No. 1, and then that trust factor."
  • The New England Patriots plan to release veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer at the start of the new league year.
  • The Miami Dolphins have until May to decide on Tua Tagovailoa's fifth-year option and have an even bigger decision to make beyond that. With Tagovailoa's health concerns, the Dolphins are exploring all options at the position moving forward.

I’m told multiple people have been made aware within the #Dolphins organization that the team will explore all options at quarterback, per league source--this as the decision continues to linger on a long-term deal and the 5th-year option on Tua Tagovailoa. pic.twitter.com/c6Os0hdL7h

  • Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson posted a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump and a 40.5 vertical jump at the Combine, the best in both categories for a QB since the inception of the event. Richardson's spectacular Combine showing definitely helped rise his draft stock; betting odds are in his favor to be the first QB selected in the draft.

Anthony Richardson is now ahead of C.J. Stroud on @FDSportsbook to be the first quarterback selected. He’s only behind Bryce Young. pic.twitter.com/ha6t4hPsZf

  • QB Carson Wentz was recently let go by the Washington Commanders but was seen Combine weekend having dinner with his agents. Wentz says he wants to continue playing, but at this point, it will likely be in the backup position.

Last night in Indy, former #Commanders QB Carson Wentz was spotted (by my eyeballs) downtown having dinner with his agents. He's determined to continue playing and is open to various roles that can help a team.
