jj watt signs with cardinals
Amidst several rumors, JJ Watt has finally found his new home. The Arizona Cardinals signed him to a two-year deal, worth $31 million, with $23 million guaranteed. And he made sure to report the deal himself.
Watt reunites with former Houston Texans teammate DeAndre Hopkins and former defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. After being linked to the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills (which was my personal pick), and the Green Bay Packers, he chooses neither of them, with the Cardinals being the dark horse. And the Cardinals play the Texans in 2021. Of course they do. Joe Lombardi excited about expanding Justin herbert's skillset
One of the best stories of the 2020 NFL season was the arrival of Los Angeles Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. The Rookie of the Year winner was thrown to the wolves by accident after a self-inflicted injury of then-starter Tyrod Taylor and shocked the entire NFL world with how well he adjusted to life as a starter. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi had nothing but good things to say about Herbert and plans to expand his skillset heading into his sophomore season.
washington expected to move on from alex smith
The Washington Football Team is set to release quarterback Alex Smith soon, according to NFL Network.
As the winner of this year's Comeback Player of the Year Award, Smith defied all odds after returning from a devastating leg injury, almost losing his leg and life. No one is taking that away from him. However, there's also no denying that we all watched through our fingers when he took the field this season, hoping everyone just stayed the hell away and he stayed upright. An intriguing spot for Smith, should he choose to continue playing, is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Smith could reunite with head coach Urban Meyer and serve as a mentor for probable first pick Trevor Lawrence. philip rivers is retiring
As expected, former SAN DIEGO Chargers (I've been waiting to type that un-accidentally) and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons.
Rivers had a solid career stat-wise, but the thing that will stand out about him was that he never had a Super Bowl under his belt. That's okay though. He now gets to go home to a house full of kids. I mean, FULL full. lions hire their next head coach
The Detroit Lions agreed to a deal with their latest head coach Dan Campbell on Tuesday. The deal is for six years.
Campbell spent the past five seasons with the New Orleans Saints as their tight ends coach. He also has some experience as a head coach, as he was named the interim head coach in 2015 for the Miami Dolphins. The biggest challenge for Campbell will not only be to fit into his role nicely, but to completely undo all of the damage that ex-HC Matt Patricia did over the past few years. Nothing improved, their was either a running-in-place situation or a setback. He will also have a say in the fate of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who you will definitely be hearing some trade rumors about this offseason. jags fire doug marrone
As expected, the Jacksonville Jaguars have fired their head coach Doug Marrone on Monday morning after winning just one game in the 2020 NFL season. If it were up to me, he would have been fired the second he said he would start Mike Glennon. Owner Shad Khan released a statement, thanking Marrone for his "hard work over the past four seasons" in Jacksonville (if you want to call it that):
The Jags have been linked to Urban Meyer as a replacement and are likely to grab top prospect Trevor Lawrence, in the 2020 NFL Draft. Additionally, a slew of draft picks, and some nice weather should make Jacksonville one of the top spots for a new hire (behind the Los Angeles Chargers, imo). anthony lynn and chargers part ways
Another one that's been brewing for a while: The Los Angeles Chargers have fired head coach Anthony Lynn on Monday morning, adding their name to the growing list of teams with an opening. The Chargers finished at 7-9, which isn't terribly bad, considering the Washington Football Team made the postseason with the same record. -confused emoji face-
The biggest 'plus' this season was the emergence of rookie quarterback Justin Herbert, and Lynn does deserve credit for that. Herbert did kind of fall into his lap (flashback to the Tyrod Taylor injection situation where the team was forced at the last minute to start Herbert). Still, the decision to keep him going and his development can be credited to Lynn. Any head coaching candidate is looking at Herbert's abilities as a positive asset when taking the job. carson wentz doesn't talk to reporters monday
The Philadelphia Eagles cleaned out their lockers on Monday after Sunday night's debacle, and Carson Wentz is just done with it all and refused to speak to reporters. I don't blame him one bit. Head coach Doug Pederson insisted that their relationship was fine (Wentz was a healthy scratch on Sunday and reportedly wants a trade), but I have some slight trouble believing that.
josh jacobs arrested for dui after game
Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs had too much fun celebrating their win on Sunday night. Jacobs was arrested for a DUI at 4:40 am after a single-vehicle crash.
Say it with me: Take. An. Uber! john elway is giving up his gm role
Add the Denver Broncos to the long list of teams looking for a new general manager. John Elway is stepping away from the role, though he'll remain president of football operations.
Basically the final say in the roster, the drafting, the players signings (aka all the good stuff) is out of his hands now.
By now, I'm sure you have heard about the recent revealings in Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor's injury saga. If you haven't -- in a nutshell, Taylor had a rib injury and received an injection for said injury before Sunday's game. It was revealed today that the team doctor who administered the injection had mistakenly punctured Taylor's lung, making this one of the craziest things I've ever heard happening in the NFL.
My first thought was -- lawsuit! The NFLPA has since said they are investigating the incident, as they should.
Aka -- this is a big mess. The team also announced today that rookie QB Justin Herbert will start Sunday.
The Los Angeles Chargers will be without center Mike Pouncey as they open the season. LA has already lost defensive leader Derwin James for the year.
Let's hope this is the end for the bad luck Chargers this season. So far, it hasn't been good.
Just last week, the Los Angeles Chargers said wideout Mike Williams would be out for a while with a shoulder injury. Now that might not be the case. He may even return to action Week One, according to offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.
If this is the case, the time and rest have been on Williams' side. Shoulder injuries aren't suitable for anyone, but especially for wide receivers; that's something you do not want to mess with. I hope Williams' injury may not have been as severe as initially stated because he's bound to repeat last season's success.
I feel like we all knew this, but Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn confirmed that Tyrod Taylor will start at quarterback Week One.
Translation: Taylor will be the starter until he isn't anymore. Next up for the job is rookie QB Justin Herbert. |
