Tampa Bay Buccaneers QBs Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are both listed as QB1 on the team's first depth chart.
Head coach Todd Bowles said each QB will start a preseason game. "Whoever starts this game, the other one will start the next game and get the same amount of reps."

The Detroit Lions signed free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Monday.
Bridgewater will be the backup for starter Jared Goff. The team also has QB Nate Sudfeld and rookie QB Hendon Hooker on the roster, though he's not expected to play in 2023 due to recovering from a torn ACL. The Lions were interested in Bridgewater for a backup role since the spring, even offering him a contract in April. Bridgewater decided to hold out for a starting role, and when that did not surface, Bridgewater went back to Detroit. Bridgewater is heading into his tenth season as an NFL player. His latest stint was with the Miami Dolphins, where he backed up Tua Tagovailoa. more qb news:
We all know the story by now of how Aaron Rodgers took a massive pay cut to play with the New York Jets. But, apparently, he reiterated (once again) that he plans to be there for longer than just 2023.
As someone who has thought that Rodgers would retire after the past two seasons, I'd be shocked if he played beyond 2023. It's better to bow out too soon than too late.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is under a lot of pressure to deliver in 2023. And he's bringing most of it on himself. Fields declared that he will be the first Bears QB to reach 4,000 yards.
I love the confidence.
The franchise record was set by Erik Kramer (who even is that?) in 1995 with 3,838 yards. Fields led all QBs in rushing yards last season, but we'll see in 2023 if he can level up to this high expectation. more qb news:
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy recently began throwing after his elbow surgery. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he hasn't specifically seen Purdy throw yet, but that he's "on pace."
It is not yet known if Purdy will be recovered enough to participate in training camp, but if he's truly on pace, he should be ready to start come September. Trey Lance and Sam Darnold are the other QBs on the 49ers' roster.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tweaked his calf during last week's OTA workouts, and he'll remain limited for a little bit longer, head coach Robert Saleh said. The hope is that he's back to full strength next week.
more qb news:
Aaron Rodgers is in attendance for OTAs with the New York Jets, but he wasn't doing much work on Tuesday due to a potential ankle injury. Rodgers was seen limping on the field where he then went to speak with the strength and conditioning staff. The good news? It's May. The best time to get injured.
The injury appeared to be only a "tweak," although it's something worth keeping an eye on as the offseason progresses.
It was later determined that the injury for Rodgers was a calf strain.
While the initial issue seems to minor, it's worth monitoring as calf injuries can tend to linger. But the fact that this happened now is better than it happening later.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to be in the midst of a quarterback competition come training camp, but the team isn't going to force anything from the jump. Baker Mayfield has been impressing the Bucs' staff so far, but Kyle Trask will get his time to prove himself as well, offensive coordinator Dave Canales says.
Mayfield has the experience (including playoff experience) of being a starter, while Trask has the advantage of sitting behind the goat (Tom Brady) for two seasons. On the flip side, Trask's only regular-season NFL playing time was during a meaningless Week 18 game in 2022, while Mayfield has been with four teams now. Both will get a good shot, and as Canales said, "Competition makes everybody great."

The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018. Now, two out of three of the quarterbacks on that roster are free agents. Carson Wentz has been looking for a new home since his release from the Washington Commanders, and Nick Foles was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Friday.
Both Wentz and Foles could find new teams as backups closer to camp, as teams like to have a good veteran presence heading into the summer.
Or, do they walk away? Foles said recently he is unsure about his future in the NFL after his release from Indy. "Shoot, almost every year of my career I've almost retired. Every offseason, I think, 'Do I still want to play? Do I still want to keep going?' Specifically this last year with everything." more qb news:
The New York Jets are clearly excited about having QB Aaron Rodgers on their side, including WR Garrett Wilson. "I'd be lying if I said we add someone of Aaron Rodgers' pedigree and the expectation doesn't go up a little bit."
