Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was the better QB during Thursday Night Football, but only if you point to the second half. After a shaky start, Jackson ended up going 27-of-38 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-22 win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And it's not a Lamar Jackson Game without a Lamar Jackson Run.
other QB news:
After two horrible roughing the passer calls in Week Five, where does the NFL go from here? Well, how about nowhere near how referee Carl Cheffers tried to explain it?
This is not how the NFL should proceed in carrying out these calls. But, unfortunately, the referees still think they're correct. A defender cannot, physically, at 300-plus pounds, stop himself from landing on a player while trying to make a tackle. It is literally impossible. Chris Jones last night (while also holding the football) put out his hand to brace the landing against Derek Carr so as not to try to land on him completely. This leaves defensive players at a loss for how to play effectively versus how just not to try to touch the quarterback at all. The NFL needs to step in and do something before they ruin the sport. Not a single person, even Raiders fans, thought that was a good call. more:
The Carolina Panthers are the latest team to hop on the 'alternate helmet' train. The team unveiled matte black helmets, which they will pair with their alternate black uniforms, to be worn throughout the season.
The NFL recently tweaked their strict (and stupid) uniform rules, allowing teams to wear a second helmet along with alternate uniforms. Other teams will be wearing classic uniforms.
This particular uniform combo will be worn against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. more top stories:
It finally happened. The Carolina Panthers traded for quarterback Baker Mayfield for a Cleveland Browns conditional fifth-round pick.
The Panthers only pay $5 million of Mayfield's 2022 salary, while the Browns will pay more than twice that to get him out of town ($10.5 million). As a result, Cleveland will go into September with Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback, assuming Deshaun Watson will be suspended at the start of the season. And to make things more interesting? The Browns and Panthers play each other in Week One. more:
Is Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers finally going to happen? Reports suggest simply seeing both Sam Darnold and Matt Corral in minicamp is not enough. Throughout this whole fiasco, reports remain set on the fact that Mayfield's next destination is fully dependent on the cost and how much salary the Cleveland Browns are willing to eat to get rid of him. Should Mayfield be Carolina's starter in 2022, it would make sense to get him there as soon as possible so he can get familiar with the system. That's why they're kind of eager to do it now.
While there are many mixed opinions on Mayfield's skill set and ability to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, he's a definite upgrade over Darnold. If Corral is in the Panthers' future, Mayfield could be the QB who can fill in for the time being until he is ready.
